Despite the weather, construction on Xcel's new home is progressing well.

The next phase of construction begins this month once steel for the building is delivered.  The steel is for the office town to be located on the southeast corner of the site.

A three-level parking garage will take up the entire block between Buchanan and Pierce streets and Seventh and Eight avenues.  Construction has been focused on getting the parking deck completed that will support the four-story office tower.  Workers will be able to work on the building's core while the parking garage is completed.

Engineers are spending the next several weeks reviewing the floor plan to finalize the number of conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms and other common areas.

Xcel plans to be in the building by March 2017.  That is when the company's lease with Chase Tower expires.  More than 300 employees will relocate to the new building which will be capable of accommodating future growth.  Xcel will lease the property with a long-term contract and will be the only tenant in the office tower.  There will be retail space available on the ground level of the structure with 5,000 square feet available for other tenants.
