Colorado Legalizes Recreational Marijuana – Maine & Maryland Legalize Gay Marriage

During last night’s election, there was more than just ‘who’s going to lead our country’ on the ballot. Colorado citizens voted on the legalization of recreational marijuana, while Maine and Maryland voted on legalizing gay marriage.

Voters cast their ballot in Colorado yesterday and they voted to legalize marijuana in the mountain state. With that said, it doesn’t mean they get so start blazing up today (legally that is). The federal government still has an anti-marijuana stance and it’s looking like that won’t be changed anytime in the near future.

Colorado is notorious for their relaxed policy on marijuana and hopes to get their new vote pushed through as quick as they can. Mayor Hickenlooper had this to say ““The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don’t break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly.”

On the East Coast, Maine and Maryland had a different agenda on the ballot. Gay marriage was voted on and passed during yesterday’s election in the two Northeastern states. Maine’s ballot is the first time that voters had the chance to voice their support for the issue. Maryland had approved the measure and lawmakers actually signed it into law, but opponents were able to gather enough signatures to challenge the law.

These are big changes and big wins for both of these groups.
