Claude ISD is ready to take the step of drug testing students that participate in extracurricular activities.

The Claude ISD school board unanimously approved drug testing in schools in December.  The parents met last night and after that the policy goes in to effect.

The school plans to test at least four times throughout the year in grades 7-12.  All students in extracurricular activities can be tested.  Students not involved in those activities are not eligible to be tested.

Students testing positive will be suspended from activities for 20 days and have to go to counseling.

The program will cost the ISD approxmately $7000 per year.
