Amarillo Mayor Paul Harpole has made an announcement regarding the search for a City Manager.

The mayor has said the city is suspending its search for a City Manager for now.  The mayor listed several challenges the city is facing, including the report and recommendations regarding best practices for the police department, search for a new police chief, a possible bond election for capital improvements, a departing interim assistant city manager, and the recruitment of an affiliated minor league baseball team.

The announcement was made at the regular City Council meeting,  The current Interim City Manager is Terry Childers.

Childers was involved in a situation earlier this year when his briefcase was misplaced at an Amarillo hotel and he called 911. Childers made his disapproval of the Amarillo 911 dispatchers clear, resulting in a bit of a city controversy.

Jarrett Atkinson was the City Manager before Terry Childers from 2004 until 2015. He resigned in October of last year.
