CARTHAGE, Texas (AP) — Searchers have recovered the body of an 83-year-old East Texas man from a private pond after he disappeared while fishing.

The Panola County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday said investigators do not suspect foul play in the death. An autopsy has been ordered on the body recovered Monday afternoon from a pond near Carthage. The man’s name was not immediately released.

Chief Deputy John DePresca (duh-PRES’-kuh) says the man’s wife earlier Monday went to the pond on the couple’s property and saw her husband in the boat. She went back about an hour later and saw the boat but her husband was missing.

Law enforcement and fire department personnel located the body in the water.

Carthage is about 160 miles southeast of Dallas.
