The American Red Cross has unveiled a new cell phone app to issue tornado warnings and inform users of other related weather content.

Tornado sirens, EAS announcements and our local weathermen now how a little bit of competition when it comes to getting the word out concerning severe weather in our area.

The American Red Cross has created a new app that will alert users to tornado warnings in their area or whatever area the user chooses.  This will help keep users informed on what is happening with the weather around loved ones who live far away.

The feature rich app is a dramatic departure from the standard weather radio.  Some of the features of the app include:

Location based weather relelated alerts, enhanced weather maps, one touch messaging to let loved ones know you are ok, lists of action steps you can take and the locations of any Red Cross shelters.

The app is available from iTunes and Google Play.
