Amarillo’s First Homicide Of 2013 May Fall Under Castle Doctrine
The first homicide of 2013 in Amarillo is not being investigated as a murder.
Christopher Wayne Mooney, 37, was killed Sunday morning. He entered his ex-girlfriend’s home without permission. Once inside he began to assault her. Her current boyfriend then intervened and struck Mooney across the chest with a hatchet. Mooney stumbled outside and was found dead in the driveway.
There were no arrests made in the case. It is believed the case may fall under the state’s castle doctrine law. In which case no charges will be filled.
