Amarillo Police were summoned to the 600 block of S. Bolton yesterday in response to a burglary in progress with the intent to cause bodily assault.

An Amarillo woman’s ex-boyfriend forced his way into her home uninvited and began assaulting her.  The woman’s current boyfriend heard the commotion and responded.

Reports vary but when the current boyfriend tried to intervene in the conflict he was threatened to the point he struck the ex-boyfriend with a weapon on the chest, presumably a knife.  The man staggered outside and police found him lying in the driveway, dead.

Christopher Wayne Mooney, 37 was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy has been ordered.

If you have any information on the case you are asked to cal the Special Crimes Unit at 378-9468
