You finally have that opportunity to get involved with local government that you've been longing.

Councilman Brian Eades, Place 2 is leaving his seat.  At tonight's weekly City Council Meeting the members will present their plan for replacing Eades with someone to serve the remainder of his term.

Randy Burkett, City Council Place 3 has gone on record putting transparency of the process is of primary concern.  Burkett feels the last time a vacancy on the Council was replaced mid-term the past council, "picked a person and let him do the term of Jim Sims".  Burkett wants to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

Anyone can apply to the council for seat provided the meet some requirements.  They must be 18 or older, registered to vote in Amarillo, a resident of the city for at least a year, not indebted to the city, and holds no public office are invited to submit an application.  The applicants will then be whittled down to five finalists.  The final five will be interviewed during an upcoming Council Meeting.

Burkett also stated the appointed Council Member is free to run for re-election when the term is up in May of 2017.

Interested parties in serving on the City Council in Place 2 have until May 20th to apply.
