The Amarillo Traffic Commission is considering some changes to roadways to better accommodate both vehicles and bicyclists.

The changes would see some minor alterations to existing roadways.  The idea is to widen the area for bikes while moving space from the turning lane to the outside lane.  It would be considered a shared roadway for both vehicles and bikes.

The changes aren't expect to cost much and is expected the alterations could be done during repair or repainting work already budgeted.

The council is discussing the policy today.  It it passes and goes to the city council it wouldn't be effective until 2015.
