It is no secret that there is a large number of people in Amarillo who have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol.  Two local organizations are working to make a difference and end this problem!

With no rehab center in Amarillo, treatment is either limited, non-existent or you have to go to another city.  That is about to change!

The "Amarillo Area Foundation" and "Amarillo Recovery from Alcohol and Drugs" (A-RAD) are teaming up to open Amarillo's first ever rehab center.  Amarillo has a huge outpouring of support but there has never been an actually rehab center in Amarillo.

For years there has been talks about a rehab center opening up in Amarillo, but there was never any funding for it until now.  The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation has made a very generous donation to the A-RAD.

The money was originally donated to the Amarillo Area Foundation who turned around and donated it to A-RAD for this much needed facility.  The plans are to use $200,000 for the facility needs and the other $100,000 towards operational support.

While this is an amazing start, there is still a lot of work to be done.  A location hasn't been found but several are being scouted.

The rehab will allow patients to self pay or use an insurance.

The ultimate goal is to have the center up and running by next spring!
