As a parent I often discuss the dangers of texting while driving and walking.  I hit on how rude it is to do it during a face-to-face conversation but legislating etiquette is farcical.  Banning texting while driving? That's a real need.

A proposed citywide ban on texting while driving is seeing strong support from the Amarillo Traffic Commission.  Although cell phone use is already banned in school zones some see the need to expand the restrictions further.

A public meeting is being scheduled and could be held as early as August 28th.

The disturbing bit of news is the idea is being bandied about to make it a violation to so much as touch your cell phone while driving.
