Amarillo Tent City Teardown; Amarillo Police Take Action

Our long municipal nightmare is over. Unless you are homeless. In that case your nightmare continues.
A camping ban on public property in Amarillo went into effect last night at midnight. Some tent city residents were proactive and began leaving their underpass refuge located near Faith City Mission earlier Wednesday.
The property belongs to TxDot and they have empowered the city to take action on these urban campers. The city council in response passed the new ordinance.
Several groups in the city have pledged assistance to the displaced homeless. APD have provided the residents with a list of charity opportunities.
Anyone remaining in tent city will face a Class C misdemeanor and a fine up to $500.
