Amarillo Teen Court has been hearing cases since 1991.  It's an ever evolving program.

Teens with Class C misdemeanors are allowed to attend Teen Court and have their case heard buy a jury of their peers, other teens.  The jurors are also participants in the program.  Defendants are usually sentenced to community service and to serve on a future jury.

The goal is to teach area youth about the judicial system and to help young defendants serve the community.

In a new program that will launch next month teens will have the opportunity to serve as attorneys for defendants.

Participants who successfully complete the program have their offenses kept off their records.

Teen Court will be in session until the end of January.
