Amarillo Police were called to a disturbance early Sunday morning.
Officers arrived to the call of a man causing a disturbance at 1615 South Jackson around 2:45am Sunday morning. Two officers arrived and confronted 33-year old German Mata. The suspect pulled a pistol from his waistband and pointed it at officers. One of the officers then shot Mata. It was later discovered the pistol was a realistic replica and not a real weapon.
Mata was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The shooting has triggered a mandatory investigation and the office involved has been put on administrative leave. The body has been sent to Lubbock for an autopsy.
