Amarillo Police Officer Not Charged With Sexual Assault

An Amarillo Police Officer has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty.

Yesterday the Potter County Grand Jury declined to pursue charges against former officer Michah Meurer and no billed his case.

Meuerer was accused of raping a woman who had called police for assistance in June.  Meurer was facing official oppression and sexual assault charges.

After an internal investigation revealed that Meurer did indeed have sexual contact with the woman while on duty, he was fired from the police department.  The incident is clearly spelled out as being against police policy.
