An Amarillo police officer has been arrested after an investigation of criminal mischief.

According to the police department a citizen filed a complaint on April 27, 2016 claiming an APD officer vandalized their vehicle.  The complaint was in regard to an incident that happened in 2014.  The case was turned over to detectives to investigate.

The detective assigned to the case competed their investigation and sent their finding to the Potter County Attorney's Office for review.  The Attorney's Office found cause to issue a warrant for the arrest of Robert Steven Vennell on September 1, 2016.

The 33-year-old Vennell turned himself in to the Potter County Jail and has been placed on administrative leave pending a review through the department.

Vennell was charged with a Class B Misdemeanor for Criminal Mischief.  The charge carries a maximum penalty of not more than 180 days in a county jail and/or a fine of not more than $2,000.

The victim has not been identified.
