Amarillo Police Find 71 Pounds Of Marijuana During Traffic Stop

Amarillo Police arrested a man Friday night after finding marijuana during a traffic stop.

An APD officer pulled over 61-year-old Gilbert Earl Desoto for speeding on I-40 near Western at around 9:50pm Friday night.  The officer was given consent to search the vehicle.  The officer found a duffle bag in the trunk containing several vacuum sealed bags with marijuana inside.

Each bag weighed from two to seven pounds each with a combined weight of 71 pounds.  The estimated street value of the drugs is $300,000.

Desoto was booked into Potter County.
