The man wanted by police for causing a SWAT standoff earlier this month has been apprehended by the authorities.

Earlier this month Amarillo police and their SWAT team were involved in a standoff near 34th and Bell street that ended with the apparent disappearance of the suspect.

Early Monday morning Amarillo police arrested Aaron Willie Jones after police found him walking and stumbling beside the roadway near Amarillo Boulevard and North Lamar.  Initially he gave police two different names but did not have identification.  Jones was taken into custody for public intoxication.

Jones was the driver of the car that was stopped in the 200 block of Northwest 15th earlier in the month.  He was known to be wanted and was described as having violent tendencies and was thought to be in possession of a handgun at the time which triggered the SWAT response.  Jones apparently fled the scene before officers arrived and had been wanted since.

Jones was also booked for failure to identify while a fugitive from justice.  Although no other charges have been filed they are expected.
