Amarillo Not Forcing Water Limits, But Asking Residents To Be Mindful
There has been much discussion in the Amarillo Area on whether or not we should mandate water consumption due to the extreme heat and drought.
“The same people that haven’t heard the message yet aren’t going to get the message this way either,” Lilia Escajeda said.
“I do think that the only way to get people to pay attention is to hit people over the head with a two-by-four.”
The City Of Amarillo is asking that if you live in a house with an odd numbered address to water on Tuesdays and Saturdays and those with even numbered addresses to water on Wednesday and Sunday. Also, to water between the hours of 10pm and 6am and to avoid watering on windy days as this causes a massive water waste.
Most grass types only need to be watered for about 20 – 25 minutes.
While at this point there is no mandatory rationing, it has not been taken off the table for future discussion.
