Amarillo Man Steals Car With 6-Year-Old In Back Seat

On Friday Amarillo police responded to a vehicle theft in the 1800 block of south Bell.

According to police the owner of the vehicle left the car running and entered a store to make a purchase leaving a 6-year-old in the backseat, asleep.  When the vehicle owner left the store she saw her car exiting the parking lot.

Shortly after police arrived on the scene they were informed to vehicle had been found in the 1500 block of south Bell.  Officers went to the location and found the driver of the vehicle and 24-year-old Joshua Anthony Polley in the passenger seat of the vehicle.  The owner of the vehicle told police she was approached by Polley who had told her he found her car and took her to the location of the vehicle.

Investigating officers obtained surveillance video showing a suspect matching Polley’s description taking the vehicle.  Polley was unable to answer questions from the officers such as how he found the vehicle, how he knew it was stolen and how he knew where to find the owner.  Polley was booked into Potter County for unauthorized us of a motor vehicle.
