Amarillo Man Shoots Robbery Suspect During Overnight Break In [POLL]

A little after 3am last night an Amarillo home owner was awakened by his house alarm system, so he grabbed his gun and went to see what was going on.

When the home owner went to check the back door he noticed a man trying to break in, once the burglar saw the home owner he ran away, but didn't get very far.

The homeowner chased the suspect down and a scuffle started, the home owner received some minor injuries to the head during the fight, and the burglar was shot in the leg while trying to flee for the second time.

APD was called out and arrested the burglary suspect. Officers found a screwdriver which is believed to be used during the attempted break in.

Both men were taken to the hospital, the home owner was treated and released, the break-in suspect is still in the hospital and awaiting criminal charges.
