Amarillo Handheld Device While Driving Ban Soon To Take Effect
The ordinance was passed and now slowly but surely the handheld device while driving ban in Amarillo will soon be in force.
City employees have been working on preparations since the ordinance was passed earlier this year. The penalty for violating the ordinance is a fine up to $200.
A public education campaign is forthcoming with television and radio commercials set to run informing Amarillo drivers of not only the dangers of using these devices while driving but also the consequences of violating the ordinance.
Additionally city workers began setting sign posts last week for signage informing drivers of the ban. Most of the signs will be placed just outside the city limits so that visitors to the city will know about the ordinance. It is expected there will be 70 to 80 of the black and white signs.
Once the signs are up, police will begin enforcing the ban. There is a 30 day grace period where officers will issue warnings. After that, you'll get a ticket if you violate the ban.
