As the drought continues to devastate the Amarillo and surrounding areas, some communities have started considering implementing water conservation restrictions. If you have been to any of our area lakes in the last year or so, you know that they are terribly low and some in real danger of completely drying up.

This has caused major issues and even prompted a pipe line to wells across the Texas Panhandle in order to ensure we don't suffer an actual 'Water Shortage' in the Amarillo and Canyon area. While this is a solution, it doesn't take away from the fact that we desperately need rain.

Our local farmers and ranchers are really feeling the pain involved in this drought as their crops aren't growing and their harvests are short. All that being said, it will also eventually trickle down right back to us, the consumer.

As we suffer, with no rain in sight, I think it is good practice for everyone to jump in and do their best to conserve what water we do have here in the Panhandle. Hopefully, this situation will change in the coming months and we will have some substantial rain, but until then, let's come together.

How much longer can this drought last? What steps are you taking to conserve water in your household?
