30 Days And Counting; Get Hands Free In Amarillo Or Get A Ticket

It’s been met about, voted in and the public education campaign has launched. And now the signs are up. It’s time to go hands free in Amarillo.
Warning signs have been placed outside the city limits warning unknowing visitors to the ban and the potential consequences. For the record, its a fine up to $200. This goes for any wireless device you might feel the need to use while driving a motor vehicle.
The city is planning 30 days of a public education campaign. This includes radio, print and television. Initially police will pull you over and issue a warning for violating the ordinance. Somewhere between 30-60 days from now police will begin issuing citations for violating the ban.
There are several petition efforts underway in an effort to urge the city council to put the issue to a public vote before police begin enforcing the ban.
