Wild Fire Burns Homes In Lake Hughes, California

CHAPPELL HILL, Texas (AP) — Two people have been killed in a weekend fire that consumed a home in Southeast Texas.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Monday that 53-year-old Jeanette M. Laster and her boyfriend, 50-year-old David Michael Wright, died in the blaze in Chappell Hill, about 65 miles northwest of Houston.

Authorities say the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday. They say a third person was badly burned and taken to a Houston hospital for treatment.

The bodies of Laster and Wright were discovered once the flames were extinguished.

Authorities say it's too early to determine the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.

It was the second fatal fire in Washington County this year. An elderly man died in a house fire in January.
