GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — Investigators say one person has been killed and four hurt in an apartment building fire in Southeast Texas.

Galveston Fire Department officials say the blaze was reported around 5 a.m. Friday at a five-story building near the downtown area. Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the third-floor blaze at the Justine (jus-TEEN') Apartments.

Firefighters helped get five people out of the burning structure. One man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other four victims were treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Chief Mike Wisko (WIS'-koh) says the fire was contained to one unit and the man who died was from that apartment. His name wasn't immediately released.

The fire was put out within about a half-hour of being reported.
